We organize to defund Alameda County's jail and criminal legal system, and build power towards resourcing life-affirming resources like permanent supportive housing, community-based mental health care, living wage jobs for care workers, and more.
Each year we work with various community partners, advocacy groups, and directly-impacted folks to generate a detailed Budget Agenda which we push our County Supervisors to adopt. We also host annual budget townhalls and trainings to ensure our neighbors have a better understanding of the hugely important (and intentionally confusing) County budget process. |

Alameda County 2023 Budget Training
|
On June 12, 2023, CFCC held a training on the the Alameda County's budget as it relates to mental health care, housing, and incarceration. We shared our priorities, who the budget players are, the county budget research we've done, and how we put together a $171 million budget platform that demands for data transparency, housing, and mental healthcare.
With the continued underfunding of our behavioral health and housing infrastructures and overfunding of the jail, black and brown residents with mental health and substance use needs are at high risk of criminalization and incarceration. |

Presented by John Lindsay-Poland (AFSC) & Tash Nguyen (Restore Oakland) on June 18, 2022. 🔮 In this virtual training, we provided basic knowledge of the county budget process; shared what we knew about the County's proposed 2022-23 budget; and shared our budget demands that are informed by incarcerated folks, their loved ones, service providers, and advocates. |
