The Care First Community Coalition organizes around Alameda County's budget cycle in order to shift  funding away from the jail and Sheriff, and toward life-affirming resources and community needs.

Each year we work with various community partners, advocacy groups, and directly-impacted folks to generate a detailed Budget Agenda which we push our County Supervisors to adopt. We also host an annual Budget 101 training to ensure our neighbors have a better understanding of the hugely important (and intentionally confusing) County budget process – in the hopes that they get engaged!
Press Release: Alameda County 2022-23 Budget Adoption (June 30, 2022)
Our 22-23 Budget Platform

Presented by John Lindsay-Poland (AFSC) & Tash Nguyen (Restore Oakland) on June 18, 2022.

🔮 In this virtual training, we provided basic knowledge of the county budget process; shared what we knew about the County's proposed 2022-23 budget; and shared our budget demands that are informed by incarcerated folks, their loved ones, service providers, and advocates.
